WE ARE YOUNG...
I open up my notebook waiting for inspiration to reach my pen when I realize, holy crap Pat Benatar, Love IS a Battlefield. What happens to those of us who are firmly anti-relationship, weighed down by a bitter-tasting aftermath? It's easy for many to bounce back with that poor, unsuspecting rebound lover, but what about those who do neither rebounding nor lover-ing?

As it turns out, we all have the answer, we just need to find it. Mine was jolted to me by a sweet, simple scene in a movie coupled with a simple kiss. Not all lovers seek to complicate and over-dramatize EVERYTHING. But for those lovers that do, you cannot place blame or relive moments. A lover never really intends to hurt you - it's just human emotion that forces differences to opposite sides of the battlefield where each of you is on the 'right' side. But in the end, just like in a battlefield, both sides are getting hurt. (woah, Ms. Benatar, you're good!)

The truth is that yes, some relationships are doomed to fail from the very beginning - but not all. Some are sweet and simple and can make you happy. yay!

I went back to Boston this past weekend. I had fun and was reminded of a couple of things:

* I really miss living in Boston * I miss being able to leave my apartment, walk a block and hop on a train * My college roommates are the coolest people to live with * Having a sugar daddy - even just a temporary one - is a lot of fun * A great song and a dancefloor can make you feel really good * Add a couple of drinks and you feel even better * Cosmopolitan's aren't as good as the girls from Sex and the City make them out to be * It's not a good idea to get too freaky with a girl on the dancefloor - she'll follow you around all night looking for more action *Not all boys are jerks - I'm very slowly escaping my anti-relationship phase. I think I would be very happy with a deaf-mute - long distance.

CAMELTOE
Umm Hmm
That’s right
Uh Huh
Oh No
Fix yourself girl
You got a Cameltoe

Girl that’s gotta hurt
Take some time and adjust
Can’t you see people staring
And making a fuss
Could not believe my eyes
Had to take a second glance
Is your crotch hungry girl?
Cause it’s eating your pants
Do you enjoy the commotion
And attention it brings?
The only lips I wanna see
Are the ones that sing
In public putting on
An X rated show
Grossing people out
With your Cameltoe

Apparently this song is catching on - not only on the radio - but I heard it three times in bars and clubs this weekend and saw the video. At first I dismissed it but now I gotta take notice. There's even a site dedicated to cameltoes. And check out Celine's cameltoe - if you weren't scared of her before, you will be now. If I asked you to, would you pick that thing Celine?

DRAG QUEEN BINGO
It's 4 AM and I just got back right now but I want to write this down before i forget it all...I won 25 dollars from a draq queen! hahaha. So Christine and I went to New York to hang out for the day and we made our way from 34th street to the village and went bar hopping. We had never been to any of these places but if we walked by a place with happy hour specials we walked in for one drink and then moved on. We were lucky enough to catch all the happy hour or two for one specials! We also got to go salsa dancing and regular old Cher music dancing at the one and only Stonewall - where in 1969 a drag queen threw her shoe at the cops in protest of the unjust harrassment and arrest of gay people and started a riot. Anyway, later in the night after all the dancing we were joined by a drag queen - I don't remember his name - but it turned out to be BINGO night. I got BINGO and won 25 bucks from the drag queen. Everyone there knew I was from Jersey because she had asked earlier so as I went up to get my prize everyone said 'take it easy on the boy...he's from jersey...and he's straight' Boy? Jersey? Straight? Hell's no! I'm no boy...i'm 23. And yes I'm from Jersey but don't have any pity for me because of it...and straight?! So when I went up she asked me to show her the goods for a bigger prize...um, goods? So I showed her my underwear but apparantly that wasn't good enough. But I don't go beyond my underwear with those I do not know.

So the whole time I was checking out these places I was wondering if they would do for Maria's birthday extravaganza. But I am not sure if my friends would enjoy them as much as I did.

HOT-LANTA
According to Forbes Magazine, Atlanta is ranked #5 in the city for singles category. ...the city's nightlife has something for everyone, from sleek club goers to the Jell-O shot crowd. Unlike some cities that close shop at two A.M. (are you listening, Boston and Denver?), certain spots in Atlanta stay open all night. mmmm, Jell-O shots.

Oh yeah, I'm moving to Atlanta in two weeks!

NO WOMAN NO CRY
I want to play guitar at night and into the morning light. I want to play in the streets as happy people travel home. I want to start as one and make friends with those I see. I want them to join me and sing No Woman, No Cry as I strum the chords on my guitar. I want them to go home and think, there was some random guy playing guitar on the street and we sang with him and it felt really good...that was fucking cool. What a good thing that would be.

NEW JERSEY!
Cara!!!!!! yay! I'm so glad Kristen sent you to my blog. Send me your email address so we can keep in touch. Louie248@yahoo.com. So yeah, I guess my blog is a little deceiving but I am not living in NYC. I'm living in good old New Jersey - but sometimes I work and play in NY. Looking through my blog I realize that I've written about New York quite a few times but have always failed to mention Jersey. Now I shall try to think of some New Jersey stories to write about. Oh yeah, a friend informed me the other day that NJ is now officially (according to the 2000 census) the state with the wealthiest people - I am not one of them. Contrary to popular belief, NJ has many beautiful neighborhoods - I do not live in any of them. According to FBI Crime Figures, NJ boasts one of the most dangerous cities in the US (Newark) - I live within shooting distance.

The low hum of nearby air conditioners muffles throw my window curtain as I wait for inspiration. The moisture in the air clings to my cold drink just as easily as it does to my forehead. My mind wanders, and I think of what people are doing now - across the street - in some quiet moonlit beach - in the streets of Manhattan. I wonder how the first gay couple to get married in Canada is celebrating both their marriage and the legal acknowledgment that they, too, have equal constitutional rights. I wonder how people like Senator Santorum can have so much hate inside of them and camouflage it with religion.
I second guess myself as to what I'm writing and why I'm letting everyone else read it.
But fuck it, if I wasn't going to let others read this, I probably wouldn't be writing. I'd probably be listening to the hum of nearby air conditioners, bitching about the moisture clinging to my forehead.

It's kind of fucked up but I measure a big part of who I am by my work-related success. And in this delusional part of my head I compare myself way too much with the people I went to high school with. That's why moving back to Jersey was difficult for me - I'd have near panick attacks walking through the streets and knowing that I might come across someone I knew back then. Someone I'd have to justify myself to and sum up my last five years into a superficial fifteen minutes. And I wouldn't really let myself believe that I've been doing something with my life - but I did get out of there. I've lived in different cities. I've partied with drag queens damn it! haha. But seriously, I've done some growing up.

My imagination would make these faces from my past into wildly successful people. But the truth of it is, most are in the same boat. A lot are married and pregnant - which is not a bad thing, some people are ready for all that. And it's sad but some are just stuck. Kevin rocks because all his juicy gossip helped put things in perspective.

BOYS, DROP THEM TWEEZERS
I was completely confused on our adventure to the Portuguese Feast yesterday. It was a giant block party with lots of guys wearing tight shirts and finely sculpted eyebrows. Was gay pride early this year? Wait, we were in Newark - Ferry Street. There are no gay people there! But except for the various roasting meats and chicken, it was just like a pride party. Well it was Portuguese Pride. I'm not exactly sure where all these straight boys got the idea that sculpting their eyebrows is a good thing. Maybe they got it from some off-duty drag queens (ie sans drag) and knowing that gay men set trends - think of those who run the fashion/make-up industries - they followed along. Whatever the case may be, plucking your eyebrow's to look like women's is a bad idea! It's understandable if you have a unibrow, then please pluck. You are supposed to have two after all. Even if you have wild, unruly eyebrows tidy them up a bit. But honestly - arching? Boys, drop those tweezers and give them back to your mamas.

I wanted to get my haircut today cause i am totally beastly looking. (is that a word?) Anyway, I look like crap. So I thought I'd go to the new salon around the corner from my house on Kearny Ave. You know, the GAY one. How do I know it's the GAY one? Well that big ol rainbow flag waving outside their window says so. Plus there's a picture of the owner and his eyebrows are more finely plucked than LUPO'S on his promnight. But they haven't opened the place yet! So I must wait till tomorrow where I can go somewhere in the city. And I am broke so Supercuts will have to supercrap my hair. Unless someone can recommend a better place.

It's one in the morning and I'm feeling restless. It's one of those moments when you know the rest of the world is quiet, sleeping, hiding but you want to make some noise. You're in the mood to call a friend and go for a drive - a drive with no destination - only good music vibrating through the speakers mapping your direction. I want it to be one of those nights with that perfect sky and eerie stillness that makes you feel like you can do whatever you want. Sure you know that moment will be lost in the morning and that feeling will be gone but you fail to think about it. You're just having a good time - thinking life is great and hoping to never feel differently. You want more than you've ever wanted and you're more hopeful than you have ever been. That is a good feeling. But I am alone in my room. And the rest of the world is quiet, sleeping, hiding.

DUH!
It's my sister's birthday this Friday and she's having a party - a disco theme. She wanted a disco ball and I'm like, hey I can make one. So there I am cutting a mirror into little squares and then gluing them onto a ball. I Krazy Glued my fingers together. Do I belong on a special bus or what? I was about to cut them apart with an X-acto Knife but luckily nail polish remover was found in time.

BIG PIMPIN'
I think Beyonce was a bad influence on Jewel. Seeing her sex it up - or at least try - on Divas Live with Beyonce to Proud Mary was cool yet discomforting at the same time. I mean, Jewel's a good looking girl. She sexed it up a bit. Good for her. But at the same time she wasn't rollin' on the river the way Beyonce was. She seemed very uncomfortable but I thought it was cool. I enjoyed the performance. So now Jewel has a new album, new video, new look! Has Jewel gone dance-pop? Her new song is reminiscent of Eden's Crush. Remember them? She's wearing short skirts and getting hosed down by beefy firemen. woah. And there are no guitars in her new song, Intuition. Plus, according to Rolling Stone, Jewel is the adgirl for Schick's new line of Intuition razors. She's gotta pay the bills i guess. Honestly, I really like her new stuff. I'm just a little shocked that it's a synthesized pop sound underneath her vocals and lyrics. More shocking is her 'Big Pimpin' new video.

NEW YORK STATE OF MIND
New York really is a beautiful city; the culture, the art, the nightlife. Sometimes I see myself living here other times I see myself getting as far away as possible. Honestly, I've been having a bipolar love affair with this city for a long time. I love those charming streets between the avenues that occur randomly throughout the city, I hate the places were tourists walk slower than a geriatric on cruches.
I love the character in the Village, I hate midtown, anything midtown! I love the size of NYC yet hate it at the same time. It's been cruel to me on those days when I've hated my job even more so when i've been unhappy with life. But on a day like today it was good to me, familiar and redeeming - like a movie you saw ages ago but forgot how much you appreciated until you saw it again - recently - when you matured and knew what it was all about.

But I think a walk through Central Park can do that to anyone. You are oddly transplanted into a different world. Things are slower, calmer, prettier. There are no business suits, no people brushing past you just to make it to the wait at the same light your slower legs take you to. There are couples with kids, frisbee throwers, and ice cream vendors. There are nice breezes, grass, and trees - there is green. Actual living green in Manhattan. It is so unexpected. And then there is also me, Maria, and Rony talking about dirty things interrupting those looking for serenity in this park. Hey, it's a big park, they can move!

So apparently, I either dipped my shirt in sugar or I smelled like dog shit because there was a swarm of mosquitos and flies that followed me. I have to admit, I was in denial - why would they be following me? You see, Rony and Maria were sitting nearby yet failed to mention the swarming mass of insects hovering above and behind me during our lengthy conversation until the mass was almost another person. So this is when I get up to move and ten seconds later they follow me. I move again - same thing. And again - same thing! What the fu#%?. Do I smell dog poopie? Seriously people if that's the case let me know.

I was always one to say that you don't need a man to be happy...and I think I finally convinced Maria. My future lover - and possibly Maria's - was found at the Sharper Image. The best massaging chairs ever! I enjoyed the bottom of the line model. It was cheap and rough just the way I like 'em. Maria's favorite was smooth and gentle. Rony's was the luxury model - the priciest and best looking. I would be THE happiest man if I had one of those puppies at home. Sure they may be $1400 but in the long run much cheaper than a man.

Some other cool things about NY:
Anyone can be on TV if they really want to -Today Show, Good Morning America, CNN, etc - We were briefly on CNN while Anderson Cooper, CNN's official (according to me) hot anchor, reported.

That almost magical "If I lived here feeling" - whether or not you really want to live there.

Um, sailors...need I say more?

Although I'm ambivalent at times, I can see why Carrie Bradshaw thinks this is the greatest city in the world.
